Abstract
This text intends to analyze the work “Morte e Vida Severina” by João Cabral de Melo Neto from the perspective of Deleuze’s theories of the redoubling of matter and Rogério Haesbaert’s concept of deterritorialization. Deleuze uses the concept of folds to explain how matter is made up of folds and refolds, creating a continuum. These folds can be related to the folds of matter (organs and physical development) and to the folds in the soul (emotional and spiritual aspects), which are interconnected. Haesbaert, in turn, discusses deterritorialization as the projection of elements outside a territory, causing its destructuring. The text explores how deterritorialization in literary work relates to the journey of the migrant Severino. As he migrates from the northeastern hinterland to Recife, we see the deterritorialization of his life and, at the same time, the territorialization in new places, represented by the different territories Severino passes through, each one with its own characteristics and challenges.
