Abstract
Introduction: Palliative care in heart disease has gained global visibility, given the importance of care, comfort and symptom control for patients suffering from terminal illnesses. This model of care is provided through the early identification and promotion of control of symptoms suggestive of suffering, following all essential care for patients with heart disease. Objective: To highlight palliative care practices by the multiprofessional team in the care of terminally ill patients with heart disease, following the humanization recommendations. Methodology: The methodological strategy used to carry out this research is the integrative literature review. Characterized by investigating and analyzing research already published on the topic in question in order to synthesize the knowledge on the topic in question. Data collection took place between June and July 2022, through the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in the LILACS and SCIELO databases. Results and Discussions: Studies indicate that the reception of the patient as a whole involves several aspects that deserve to be carried out according to the patient’s needs. At the time of qualified listening, communication must be done in verbal language according to their level of understanding and education. In addition, health education can be a topic addressed in different contexts that involve the family and the care to be performed. Conclusion: Palliative care consists of taking care of an individual in all aspects, whether physical, mental, spiritual and social. In this context, the care process for the terminal patient needs to be carried out in a holistic and systematic way. Therefore, such support requires a lot of specialization and humanization, and a division of responsibilities that needs to be integrated into the team.
