Abstract

Objective: To synthesize the importance of the kangaroo mother method performed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Method: Study of the integrative review modality, guided by the databases of the Health Library of the Online Scientific Electronic Library (SciELO) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). The study was built with 10 publications, which, through the search performed, were read and analyzed with regard to: title, abstract, descriptors and completeness in the publication. Results: The kangaroo mother method is important because it brings several benefits to newborns, such as: weight gain, regulation of temperature, heart and respiratory rate, bonding with the mother and family, in addition to improving the development process. Study on the kangaroo mother method are relevant to public health, in which newborns are inserted, so it is pertinent that further research is carried out.
