Abstract
Objective: To describe the nursing care provided in the neonatal intensive care unit in a municipality in Paraíba. Method: Research in the experience report modality, which took place in 2018, from the performance of tutoring activities in supervised internship, offered by a higher education institution in health. The experience took place through the construction of a care plan, based on the humanistic theory of nursing, guided by Paterson and Zderad. Results: the following precautions were taken: measurement of vital signs, change of position every two hours, administration of medications, hygiene of the baby and materials directed to him; dressings; care with the umbilical stump; bathing and strengthening the family support network. Conclusion: The nurse is therefore responsible for the implementation of care, one of the professionals responsible for the physical, psychological and social development of the newborn in the Neonatal Care Unit.
