Abstract

The spine is a body structure located in the human dorsal region, consisting of bones and joints. This segment performs crucial and fundamental functions for a good quality of life, being responsible for supporting the back muscles, maintaining the posture in the upright conformation, protecting the spinal cord, as well as the nerves that originate from it. In this bias, among the membranes inserted in the spine, through this expanded summary we highlight the so-called arachnoid - transparent, avascular membrane, which is located exactly between the dura and pia mater; externally and internally, respectively - and its consequences when inflamed, a condition clinically known as arachnoiditis. From this perspective, because the disease causes an absence of vascularization in the region and other varied occurrences, it causes severe, complex and painful consequences for the patient, and these complications and their analysis are the main objective of this work.
