Abstract

Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, several efforts have been directed towards the development and improvement of effective vaccines, in order to reduce the spread of the virus and mitigate the impacts on public health. Among these efforts, the pertinence of evaluating the effectiveness of available vaccines, their ability to prevent infections and their resulting complications and to reduce the severity of symptoms or to avoid hospitalizations and deaths related to COVID-19, stands out. Enabling the population's access to this information and other information related to other vaccines is a strategic resource against the anti-vaccination movement. Public awareness is crucial during this period, given the negative impact of this movement on immunization coverage for other routine and campaign immunizations. The purpose of this editorial article is to reflect on the effectiveness of vaccines against COVID-19 available on the market through a brief presentation of scientific knowledge already published and to make relevant reflections on the subject.
